For one night only, a special rooftop concert featuring folk songs from Malta & Portugal, ft. Mariele Zammit & Joe Debono from Malta, & Acácio Barbosa on the Portuguese guitar, with guest performer Rachelle Deguara.

Join us for a magical evening under the stars at our special rooftop concert, where the rich musical traditions of Malta and Portugal come together in a celebration of cultural identity and heritage. This unique event will feature an enchanting blend of traditional folk songs from both countries, highlighting the soulful melodies and heartfelt lyrics that have been passed down through generations.

.

Each song tells a story, weaving together the threads of history, love, struggle, and joy that define the spirit of these nations. The concert will not only showcase the distinctive musical styles of each country but will also explore the fascinating crossovers and shared themes in their folk traditions.

.

This special event forms part of the art exhibition Ngħaddu ż-Żmien (MSA 27 Jun – 18 Jul), a cross-cultural exchange between Ed Dingli & Patarra – a Portuguese artist living in Malta and a Maltese artist living in Portugal (curated by Andrew Borg Wirth).

.

As Dingli & Patarra exchanged cultural references over two years and explored the intersections between their countries, music played a pivotal role in their inspiration. They were profoundly inspired while watching the captivating performance of Mariele Zammit and Joe Debono at Ritmu Fest in 2023.

.

Mariele’s ethereal voice paired with Joe’s graceful piano playing uncovered the timeless fables and lessons embedded in traditional Maltese folk songs. These stories, rich with wisdom and universal truths, offer invaluable insights and resonate with contemporary relevance. They remind us of the enduring nature of human experiences and the importance of preserving cultural narratives.

.

Enter the mega talented Acácio Barbosa, flying in from Portugal for this special event. Barbosa has dedicated his life to mastering the Portuguese guitar. He combines traditional fado with soulful folk guitar, regularly performing as a solo artist or with Port do Soul and Criatura.

.

Come and be part of an evening where melodies bridge the gap between past and present, Malta and Portugal, melancholy and hope. Discover the beauty and significance of folk music and celebrate the profound connections that bind us all.
