SUMMARY:Christmas Chapel Hop - TNV x ADfC - Santa Venera
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 5th December – 8:30pm – Santa Venera — Sacred Heart of Jesus Church; St Michael’s Hospice\n\n\nOver the past few years\, The New Victorians performed and produced two runs of their Christmas Chapel Hop; a Sold-Out tour of concerts in different Chapels around Malta throughout the festive season. Performing reimagined local hymns and carols whilst celebrating our local heritage\, the Chapel Hop has become a popular staple within the season’s calendar. \n\nThis year\, through a collaboration with the office of the Archbishop’s Delegate for Culture\, the project has grown. Not only will the takeover be for churches and audiences of a larger scale\, but a multicultural choir has also been assembled to accompany the sister duo. Voices from the Filipino\, Ukrainian and Nigerian communities in Malta have all been rehearsing together with Philippa and Bettina\, their band\, and other choir members from Malta\, for what promises to be an even bigger and more special spectacle than what audiences have flocked to in previous years.\nAcross churches in Santa Venera\, Qrendi\, Valletta and Żebbiegħ\, the 20-strong ensemble will harmonise with The New Victorians and band in what promises to be a beautiful new version of the project. This year’s twist was conceived in order to create greater awareness of the untapped talent that exists within Maltese society and set a precedent for future intercultural opportunities. The project has been supported by Dance Beyond Borders\, celebrating diversity through a safe space of community.\n\nThe Christmas Chapel Hop 2024 has only been made possible with the support of Farsons Foundation\, Deloitte Foundation\, Malta International Airport\, APS Bank\, Bolt\, Best Team Audio\, Visit Malta\, Welbees and Olimpus.

SUMMARY:Rooftop Series: Serata Mużikali - 7th July
DESCRIPTION:For one night only\, a special rooftop concert featuring folk songs from Malta & Portugal\, ft. Mariele Zammit & Joe Debono from Malta\, & Acácio Barbosa on the Portuguese guitar\, with guest performer Rachelle Deguara. \nJoin us for a magical evening under the stars at our special rooftop concert\, where the rich musical traditions of Malta and Portugal come together in a celebration of cultural identity and heritage. This unique event will feature an enchanting blend of traditional folk songs from both countries\, highlighting the soulful melodies and heartfelt lyrics that have been passed down through generations. \n. \nEach song tells a story\, weaving together the threads of history\, love\, struggle\, and joy that define the spirit of these nations. The concert will not only showcase the distinctive musical styles of each country but will also explore the fascinating crossovers and shared themes in their folk traditions. \n. \nThis special event forms part of the art exhibition Ngħaddu ż-Żmien (MSA 27 Jun – 18 Jul)\, a cross-cultural exchange between Ed Dingli & Patarra – a Portuguese artist living in Malta and a Maltese artist living in Portugal (curated by Andrew Borg Wirth). \n. \nAs Dingli & Patarra exchanged cultural references over two years and explored the intersections between their countries\, music played a pivotal role in their inspiration. They were profoundly inspired while watching the captivating performance of Mariele Zammit and Joe Debono at Ritmu Fest in 2023. \n. \nMariele’s ethereal voice paired with Joe’s graceful piano playing uncovered the timeless fables and lessons embedded in traditional Maltese folk songs. These stories\, rich with wisdom and universal truths\, offer invaluable insights and resonate with contemporary relevance. They remind us of the enduring nature of human experiences and the importance of preserving cultural narratives. \n. \nEnter the mega talented Acácio Barbosa\, flying in from Portugal for this special event. Barbosa has dedicated his life to mastering the Portuguese guitar. He combines traditional fado with soulful folk guitar\, regularly performing as a solo artist or with Port do Soul and Criatura. \n. \nCome and be part of an evening where melodies bridge the gap between past and present\, Malta and Portugal\, melancholy and hope. Discover the beauty and significance of folk music and celebrate the profound connections that bind us all. \n. \nThis event was made possible with the kind support of the Archbishop’s Delegate for Culture. Limited to 70 places. \n. \nSupported by:\nUber\, Rubicon\, APS Bank\, Frendo Advisory\, Stretta\, MAPFRE
